Inverted Index Map, 2018
Inkjet print

Inverted Index Map flips the function of a traditional index map. When a conventional index map zooms out to get overview and to categorize, this map is doing the opposite. It is a map of 24 digital image files that has been zoomed into and appears therefore on pixel level. The images identity as motives is deconstructed and we see instead the images as what they really are; pixels. They are listed in the index, but as the zoom has stripped away their concepts, they are now impossible to differ from one another. The piece is investigating the relationship between the actual reality and the concepts that is projected onto it.
